PostSubject: Mr. Nagy's Class (SPOILERS)   Sat Feb 21, 2009 2:34 pm

Am I completely unobservant or is there a big inconsistency in the plot?
When Jesse and Ralf start spreading rumors about Rose being a blood whore, I remember her walking up to them in Mr. Nagy's class, wishing to beat the crap out of them, then realizing it would only get her expelled, which wouldn't be helpful at all. So she walks away, mentioning that it was a really hard decision to make.
Then, as the story moves on, she keeps mentioning several times about how she hit Jesse. She even says something about how she fought against the guardians who pulled her out of Mr. Nagy's class. When did that ever happen?? I don't remember anything like it.

Hmmm....I remember her hitting a lot of people during the books. But I can't say I remember that scene at all, let alone the inconsistency. Dare i say I have found a reason to re-read?! Yes I do!

Don't worry it's not just you that noticed it. I remember reading this --> Ch.17

Dimitri: "Headmistress Kirova thinks you've done well since coming back"
Rose: "Aside from starting a fight in Mr. Nagy's class."

After reading that I was like "what fight?"

Well, I've read on her LJ that every novel goes through a lot of editing and transformation so sometimes she doesn't really remember what stayed and what didn't. I guess this could be an explanation... probably.

I didn't think she was the one who fought in that class however, she did in a way I guess cause Christian to set Ralf on fire...the only time I can remember her hitting Jesse is in the third one after he like tortured Lissa.

Oh, my gosh, I've thought this exact thing! I'm one of those people who reads something that refers to a previous action or statement and then I HAVE to go back to find the original. I KNOW Rose mentions beating them up, like how satisfying it was to hit them, but there never was a physical fight. I've wondered if I was crazy every time I reread the book, and I have to check again!

OK, where in the book does it say that? I just reread it and couldn't find it.
Is it in the first one!?

It's definitely in the first one. Sorry, both my copies are loaned out so I can't give specifics.

She mentions it when she punches Mia. She says something about how she punches Mia harder than she even hit Jesse, and how she didn't fight the guardians when they got her off Mia, unlike when they dragged her off Jesse.

She also mentions it to Dimitri when he's telling her about how he convinced Kirova to let her go to Missoula.

Overall, it's mentioned so many times that it's obvious that she got into a bad fight with Jesse in Nagy's class in the first draft of VA. I think I like that it was cut; it shows that Rose puts Lissa first always, even when she wants to kill the guys who are messing with her personally. The only reason she lets loose on Mia is because Mia wasn't hurting her, she was hurting Lissa.
