Speaking of driving though, do you guys have a system of sort, like a learners licence and then your full licence? In Australia (or at least my state) we have to do a certain amount of time on out Learners and then we move onto level 1 Provisional licence for a year and a bit and then move onto level 2 Provisional before we're able to move onto a full licence. Is it as strict over there?

In Canada, we can get Learner's Permits when we're 16, and we have to put this "L" sticker on the backs of our cars to notify other drivers. Everyone has to get their "L" (Learners) (We have to take a test to get it, and People who only have their L must have an adult who has their full permit in the car when driving) After a year, we can then take our test for our "N" (New Driver) Which is also a sticker we have to put on the backs of our vehicles. I believe we then have to take another test to get our full permits, with out any stickers. We might not have to take a test to get our full permits, though, we might only have to wait a certain amount of time. I don't know, because I'm not old enough to drive, yet. I know that everything else is right, from talking to people who's older siblings drive.

Oh, well,....
I'm really sixteen

but I like to fake my age and tell everyone I was born in 1942 (it's an inside joke)
I always wished to be born in a different time (mainly when Jazz ruled the world)

I'm 14, going on 15 in Feburary. I look younger than my age(I still get kiddie menus at restaurants). I also have a more complex mind then most people my age. I tend to speak properly, but I'm still teenager like. I think it's good our drinking ages in the US are 21. Most are is school then, and alchol + school= no no.

I'm 21

Even though I am still young i don't like 'adult ' books that much. Don't get me wrong- i read a TON of them but i love teen series... something about "adult" series just turn me off... i find authors try to hard with adult series. There is a simplicity in young adult series- capturing fantasy and creating worlds as ease yet still maintaining a sense of realism. It all works and flows naturally i can easily get lost in the story. I'm always more invested and attached to teen series... they touch my heart. Meanwhile, i can enjoy and do love "adult" series and novels but it my teen series that i always return too and read over and over again.

As for the drinking thing... honestly i was drinking before i was legally able to. But i vote for HIGHER drinking ages. I was raised in a liberal family and it was my parents that introduced me to drinking- but i learned how to take care of yourself, how to act, to be cautious , know my limits, the dos and donts. Now that i'm 21 i've over the whole drinking bar hoping thing and just enjoy a glass of wine here and there or like last night, celebrating my cousins birthday throwing back a few shots.

I've seen my peers and still see young people , some time even in junior high kids , drinking and they are completely reckless and every time i see people like that outside or on the train my heart jumps out of my chest. So many things can go wrong and i just feel worry and concern for them. Not to mention many of these kids aren't aware of how to handle themselves and encounters with others- people can easily slip them roofies. It's upsetting to me. So i feel if the legal drinking age was higher maybe when people have their first drinking experiences they would be wiser and safer.

But i also feel, if someone can enlist in the army at 18- risk their life... then they should be able to drink legally. So i am conflicted about that issue.

You're so right about YA books. They seem to draw you in a lot better (though perhaps I'm not the best judge on that since I'm still a teen Razz)

And thanks everyone for their drinking opinions Smile

My parents are strong believers in the opinion that if you let teens try a couple sips of alchohol when their younger, then the appeal won't be as big when they're older, because they already know what its like. I do think, though, that drinking ages should be higher. I don't think that 19 year olds (in Canada the drinking age is 19) are mature enough to handle it. I think raising the drinking age here would be a good idea.

I'm 18 and I do drink but only wine with my mom or sister and brother I don't drink to get drunk it's just nice to have something every once and awhile it's annoying when my friends are bragging about having hangovers -_- I think 21 is a good drinking age
