I like what you were saying about spirit not being all about life like the other elements. That makes sense. Strigoi can't touch things that were forged with life through the other four elements such as stakes and wards. The ring was forged from spirit and heals the darkness temporarily. So it's possible that Dimitri was able to touch the ring and be himself again. So now Rose has to convince Dimitri to wear the ring long enough to grasp his humanity and convince him to be healed via the fairy tale. As for touching stakes I don't buy the gloved theory though because like I said before if it were that simple and easy the strigoi would just wear gloves and stake their own wards. Then all moroi wouldn't be safe anywhere anymore and they'd be nearly extinct if they were that easy to get to.

well theres another theory?
just like they explained in shadow kiss - the wards that surround the school eventually fade and they re-newed it every two weeks.
rose had been away from the academy for more than two weeks, so it might have faded.
the strigoi may have then been able to touch it?

I reckon in places the wards are likely to fade if not applied frequently enough...but not in heavily guarded places. People are way too concerned about possible strigoi attacks, even more so now that they've been attacked already.
But, the stake might have faded, yeah. Although they probably last longer than wards because they're enfused with magic and not just surrounded by it. It might explain why Dimitri was able to hold onto Rose's new stake though, because we don't know how long it had been in the vault for.

To the whole Dimitri holding the stake infused with magic thing-

I've read a fanfiction- yes i know its a fan fiction and nothing to do with the books- but it got me thinking about the wards and stakes infused with magic. Maybe, just maybe, Dimitri being able to hold rose's stake isn't a stroigi thing- but its a Dimitri thing.

Maybe only Dimitri could hold Rose's stake infused with magic- because well he's Dimitri. Maybe he does possess a little of his old spirit which makes him able to have contact with magic-not long or fully- but shortly.
